Revaluing brands excess inventory: Yes but at what scale?

Since the beginning of ISLA, our main mission has been to find a second life to the sleeping inventory that brands have accumulated throughout the years.

Brands generate around 4 millions tons of unsold clothes in europe only. This represents several billions of unsold clothes for the biggest brands, which end up being shipped overseas to Africa and other less developed countries, where it’s then destroyed (as these countries lack destruction regulations).

Our passion for upcycling has driven us to create upcycling collections for @citadium and other partnered brands . And in doing so, the question always came up, “Can upcycling alone cope with the massive stock that brands have accumulated, and still accumulate?”

The answer was not good.

So we went back to the drawing board, and worked hard to propose brands a solution for their WHOLE inventory problem that would align sustainability and business goals.

We profoundly believe that upcycling IS part of the solution and we are continuing to encourage the upcycling movement. However, we are expanding the reuse solutions we bring brands to increase our impact.

Stay tuned to hear about the rest of the story :)
